Mood swings/ Depression

Sadness is a natural human feeling. We feel sad when things that happen in our lives, hurt us. It is an indication that we might feel unfairly treated, offended, disappointed, or we are going through a loss. Sadness can also transform into depression. Usually many people experience depressive symptoms in demanding stages of their lives. Depression is presented for at least 6 continuous months, with severe decreased mood (things that were associated with happiness, do not have the same feel anymore), diminished energy, lethargy or insomnia or sleep disturbances, sudden decrease or increase of appetite, feeling hopeless, and are occupied with thoughts about death. In severe depressive cases, individuals can even contemplate about ending their lives. These symptoms can be the reason that a person withdraws from their social circle, and the cause of dysfunction in areas that are important for them: romantic relationships, friendships, university performance. If you experience something similar, the request for immediate assistance is a crucial step to alleviate these symptoms and we strongly encourage you to reach out to the Center to discuss these serious matters.

Besides depression, individuals can experience shifts in their mood, with bursts of periods when their energy is high, impulsivity act impulsively, have a strong desire for sexual intercourses which might happen with multiple partners and without protection against sexually transmitted diseases, are more talkative and sociable than usual, act recklessly and make senseless investments with a dead end. These symptoms, can lead to dysfunctional behaviors in professional, family, academic, and interpersonal level. If you experience this mood shifts it is crucial to reach out to the center and discuss the issues that bother you.
