Vice-Rector Office for Academic Affairs

The Vice-Rector Office for Academic Affairs, directed by Professor Diofantos Hatzimitsis, is involved and responsible for overseeing all academic matters and processes of the University, and being guided by the University Strategic and Development Plan, it oversees formulation of academic policies and supervises their implementation , in order to achieve the University's educational goals and ensure the quality of all academic services and maintenance of international standards.


The Vice-Rector Office for Academic Affairs participates in research and innovation matters while promoting the enrichment of the learning environment for all students.


At the same time, the Vice-Rector Office for Academic Affairs in collaboration with the Schools and Departments promotes suggestions regarding academic programmes to the relevant bodies of the University.


The Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs chairs the following committees:

  • Research Committee
  • Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies Committee
  • Internal Quality Committee

and oversees the Library Committee, due to the Library's direct connection and involvement in the University's research and teaching process.


Through the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies Committee, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs ensures a systematic evaluation of the curriculum offered by the Departments and Schools to ensure the quality of curriculum and course content.


The Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, in collaboration with the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies Senate Committee, as well as with administrative support of the competent Academic Affairs and Student Welfare Service, establishes guidelines for the design of the curriculum and the academic plan, calendar and timetables. At the same time, they contribute to the definition of the academic goals set by the Schools and the Departments. In addition, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs is responsible for encouraging and supporting research, research proposals preparations, issues, publications and other scientific activities of academic staff.

The Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs through the Senate Research Committee and in collaboration with the Research and International Cooperation Service, contributes to the promotion and facilitation of the research activity of the academic community. The aim is to continually identify opportunities for new research collaborations that look forward to identifying new research areas and agreements.

All matters relating to the management and development of Quality Assurance policies are under the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs authority. In collaboration with the Internal Quality Committee, he coordinates the process of submitting curricula to the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education, for evaluation and accreditation, for setting the indicators for measuring the quality and analysis of University processes, and in particular of teaching methods and research activity of academic staff. At the same time, he oversees the preparation of the University's Quality Charter, and coordinates all efforts for the Institutional Evaluation of the University by the Quality Assurance and Certification Body.


The aim of the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs is to optimize the academic structure of the University towards continuous improvement of its performance and avoidance of time-consuming processes, overlaps and duplication in practices. He supports the reinforcement and promotion of such pedagogical models that enhance learning and excellence.

The CUT’s commitment to this quality assurance policy is being achieved through:

  • Implementation of systems that guaranty, through ever-improving processes, the quality of education provided to students.
  • Recruitment and development of competent and qualified academic staff being provided with the necessary support to perform their tasks.
  • Adoption of qualitative and quantitative objectives and continuous effort towards long-term improvement of the effectiveness of the management system in place.
  • Encouragement of inter-university cooperation and securing the academic recognition of the degrees and titles offered.
  • Meeting the legal and regulatory requirements of the University, taking into account the requirements of all interested parties.
  • Implementation of same policy by all the academic, teaching, research and administrative staff of the University.
  • Implementation of an Integrated Quality Management System based on international quality standards and the Bologna Process.
