New Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have significantly changed the way we learn, work and communicate. These technologies offer enormous opportunities for learning and communication, which in most cases remain untapped due to the lack of an adequate theoretical, pedagogical, and technological framework. This programme aims to bridge the gap between opportunities and reality by laying the foundations for the development of ICT knowledge and skills, and linking these knowledge and skills to their application in authentic situations.
This programme addresses postgraduate students who are interested in subjects related to the design, research and application of new learning technologies in typical (e.g. schools) and non-typical learning environments (e.g. museums, continuing education, work-based learning, etc.)
Since September 2014, the Master’s Degree has been offering modules specifically for students with a background in Information Technology with a focus on ubiquitous computing. In combination with the other modules which are offered under the master's programme, this programme enables students with a technological background to broaden their knowledge.
The postgraduate programme in "New Learning and Communication Technologies" is recognized by the Cyprus Educational Service Committee.
The curriculum is structured on the basis of three pillars:
- Theoretical Foundation,
- Design and New Interactive Technologies, and
- Applications.
The successful completion of the Master's programme in New Learning and Communication Technologies requires the completion of 90 ECTS, including the Master's Thesis which receives 30 ECTS.
The programme is offered on a full or part-time basis and has a minimum duration of three semesters and a maximum duration of eight semesters.
Students must attend a total of nine modules. The CIS 501 module: Learning and Communication Theories and CIS 541 module: Research Methodology are compulsory during the first semester of study for all students. In addition, to obtain a degree, students must successfully complete the Master’s Thesis, which requires enrollment in the CIS 560 Module: Research Design and CIS 580 Module: Master’s Thesis.
The Master’s Thesis can only be started after the successful completion of the teaching part of the programme or upon approval of the Department.
