Education

The postgraduate (MSc and PhD) educational programs of the Institute are namely the Master in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, the Master in Environmental Health and the Doctorate in Environmental and Public Health, as well as the new programs planned (Master in Public Health-MPH). The core courses shared by all programs are designed so that all graduates have an in-depth understanding of the basic principles of public and environmental health and their application to various aspects of public health, with further specialization being offered in analogy with the selected specialization (epidemiology and biostatistics or environmental health). In addition to methodological knowledge and skills, emphasis has been placed on the design of programs in applied knowledge and practical skills so that the graduates of the Department are ready to serve successfully in relevant professional positions.

The mission of the Institute is not limited to the training of future health professionals but also of already employed health professionals. Lifelong learning and continuing education programs for existing professionals in health-related sectors are an indispensable component of the Institute for the training of these professionals. These could also take the form of lifelong learning courses for relevant health professionals, including general practitioners and community nurses. The Institute has offered in the past, and will continue to offer in the future, short courses with additional emphasis on applied knowledge, such as the critical assessment of scientific findings presented in the literature and the ability to translate these results into health policies, the clinical environment and in evidence-based practice and translational research.
