INSTRUCTIONS TO STUDENTS FOR INDUSTRIAL TRAINING

Industrial training as an Elective Module

Students completing the second year of their study may choose Industrial training as an Elective Module. This can be done through the Summer Industrial Training offered by the Department between the 2nd  and 3rd  year or the 3rd  and 4th  year of studies in a limited selection of companies, organizations and other institutions. 

Students’ selection for the Summer Industrial Training is carried out following their application duly submitted and provided they meet specific criteria included in the Department's Industrial Training Regulations. 

The Summer Industrial Training is for a minimum of eight (8) weeks, it is subject to strict regulations and is under the continuous supervision of the Department in collaboration with the Supervisor of the Employment agency.

The Industrial Training can also be credited to students who successfully complete other similar recognized programmes following decision and approval of the Department.

  • Students can choose the Industrial Training only once.             
  • This module will be credited with the specific code given depending on the student’s direction.             
  • The module will only be credited when the quantitative, qualitative criteria and conditions contained in the Department's Industrial training regulations are met.          

Payroll

Students who choose the Industrial training will not be paid unless otherwise agreed with their employer.

Students who have the right to choose the Internship as an elective module

Year 2 and Year 3 students enrolling in January to attend the spring semester are eligible to apply for one of the positions offered in Industrial Training.

Selected students will complete the Internship in the next summer vacation period.

In September enrollments, students having successfully completed the Internship will be able to be exempted from a technical elective module of the new academic year.

Credit Units

The number of credits for the Internship is 5 Credit Units.

  • 300 credit hours (8 business weeks) correspond to 5 credit units.               

In cases where a student covers at least 240 working hours (80% of the time required) due to reasons beyond his or her will (illness, etc.) the Internship Committee will take up the matter and act at its discretion. 

A student whose internship time is less than 240 hours (<80% of time required) is considered to have a failed result.

Student selection process

All Year 2 and Year 3 students interested in participating in the module are invited to complete the "Application Form for Participation in Industrial Training" (Form 2) and indicate the positions in which they are applying in the order of their preference. 

Student Selection Criteria

Students will be selected by the Internship Committee on the basis of the following criteria in the following order of importance: 

  • Year 1 Average Mark (in case of a Year 2 student) and Year 2 Average Mark (in case of a Year 3 student).               
  • Conduct             
  • Number of unsuccessful modules.          

Criteria for the successful completion of the Internship

For a successfully completion of the Industrial Training, the student must meet the following quantitative and qualitative criteria and conditions:

  • Undertake the Internship for at least 300 hours (8 working weeks).             
  • Keep a work diary in a special internship book that summarizes the work performed weekly.             
  • Receive a positive evaluation* by the Student Supervisor and the Employment Agency Supervisor, for the internship book.              
  • Prepare the final internship report  (minimum number of words: 2000)
  • Receive a positive evaluation* of the Student Report by the Academic supervisor.              
  • Receive a positive final evaluation* by the Employment Agency Supervisor on behalf of training company / organization.               
  • Show an excellent conduct.             
  • Receive a positive final evaluation* by the Departmental Internship Committee.             

* Positive rating: mark > 60%.

Student insurance

Our students are insured against accidents during their Internship thanks to the group insurance granted from the CUT.

Employment Agencies and positions for industrial training for summer 2015

For this year’s Internship, the CUT has found several employment agencies which are listed in Table 1, and are able to provide quality Industrial Training. 

 

Details about the positions and employment agencies can be found in the attached forms.

 

Students interested in participating in the Industrial Training Programme under the above conditions should complete the APPLICATION FORM (FORM 2) and send it electronically to Department Secretary.

Internship Outline

1. INTERNSHIP OBJECTIVES

Students should:

  • Consolidate their theoretical and laboratory knowledge by applying them in practice through the Internship.               
  •  Familiarize themselves with the industrial and the business reality in the working environment.               
  • Acquire practical skills.             
  • Learn to work with their colleagues in real working conditions.             

 

2. LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Students should:

  1. Acquire practical skills.
  2. Develop discipline in the working environment.
  3. Apply theoretical knowledge in the working environment

 

3. WORK WITHIN COOPERATION

3.1 SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

3.1.1. Student Responsibilities 

Students should:

  • comply with the schedule set by the employer.             
  • follow and implement the internship programme prepared by the employer.             
  • follow and adhere strictly to workplace safety rules.             
  • behave responsibly towards both his employers and his colleagues.             

3.1.2 Responsibilities of the Internship Supervisor

The Internship Supervisor should:

  • Inform students about Industrial training ( Form 1 ).             
    • Inform students about the forms to be completed during and at the end of the Internship ( Form 2 , Form 3 and Form 4 ).                 
    • Review and approve or reject potential employers. ( Form 5 )             
    • Ensure a best selection of employer for students who wish to participate in Industrial training.             
    • Inform students about the type of work they will be called upon to do by their employer.             
    • Keep a record of employers and students enrolled in Industrial Training each academic year. ( Form 6 )               
    • Visit the student’s workplace at least once during Internship and complete the relevant form ( Form 7 ).             
    • Respond to and address any potential problems that may arise during the Internship.               

3.1.3 Responsibilities of the Internship Professor

  • To collaborate and coordinate.             
  • To keep and update the records with potential employers.             
  • To review and evaluate the Student Internship Book upon completion of each internship.             
  • To review and evaluate the Student Internship Report upon completion of each internship. ( Form 8 )             
  • To evaluate the confidential evaluation form of the employer.             
  • To prepare a list of students who have successfully completed the Industrial training.             
  • To update the Council of the Department about the Industrial Training.             
  • To ensure that the Industrial Training module is credited to students who have successfully completed it.             

 

4. INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS

4.1 Students can contact the responsible Professor to:

  • Collect information at the beginning of spring semester about Industrial training. ( Form 1 )          
  • Collect information about the forms to be completed ( Form 2 , Form 3 and Form 4 )                 
  • Receive, monitor, evaluate and decide on their requests.               

4.2. The responsible Professor’s visit:

4.1 Students can contact the responsible Professor to:

  • Collect information at the beginning of spring semester about Industrial training.

The professor receives, monitors, evaluates and decides on their applications.               

4.2. The responsible Professor’s visit:

  • The Professor’s visit takes place at least once  the Industrial Training period and Form 7 is completed

 

4.3 Guidance on the Industrial Training Report   

  • An Industrial Training programme is designed in cooperation with the employer.             
  • Upon completion of the Industrial Training, guidelines for the preparation of the Final Industrial Training Report are provided in Form 3 .               

4.4 IN CASE OF A PROBLEM

  • The Industrial Training Supervisor is informed accordingly and in collaboration with a responsible professor, they provide the appropriate solution to the problem.             

 

5. EVALUATION OF INDUSTRIAL TRAINING

5.1.2. Deadline of submission

  •  End of September, of the year the Industrial Training took place.             

5.1.3. Presentation of Report

  • The Report ( Form 3 ), the Industrial Training Calendar ( Form 4 ), the Supervisor’s evaluation  ( Form 7 ) and the Employer’s evaluation ( Form 9 ), are compiled and evaluated by the responsible professor.
