School of Marine Sciences, Technology and Sustainable Development

The Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) invites Expressions of Interest from distinguished academics for Visiting Professor positions in the School of Marine Sciences, Technology and Sustainable Development, based in Larnaca, Cyprus.

Appointments are expected to commence during 2026 and may be of variable duration and intensity, as proposed by the applicant and agreed with the University.

About the School

The School of Marine Sciences, Technology and Sustainable Development is a newly established academic unit of CUT, comprising two departments:

  • Department of Marine Sciences and Technology
  • Department of Sustainable Development

The School aims to establish itself as an internationally recognised centre for research-led education and scholarship in marine sciences, marine and maritime technologies, and sustainable development, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinarity, applied research, and societal relevance.

While Visiting Professors will be appointed to one of the two departments, the call is issued at School level to encourage cross-departmental engagement and collaboration.

Areas of Academic Interest

Expressions of interest are welcomed from academics with expertise in the following indicative (non-exhaustive) areas:

For the Department of Marine Sciences and Technology

  • Marine and coastal sciences
  • Oceanography and marine ecosystems
  • Marine and maritime technologies
  • Coastal engineering and resilience
  • Blue economy and marine resources
  • Marine environmental monitoring and modelling

For the Department of Sustainable Development:

  • Sustainable development theory and practice
  • Climate change, energy, and decarbonisation
  • Sustainable cities, urban development, and mobility
  • Governance, policy, and sustainability regulation
  • Environmental economics and sustainable finance
  • Social justice, inclusion, and sustainability education

Visiting Professor Contributions

Depending on expertise, availability, and institutional needs, Visiting Professors may be invited to contribute to:

  • Teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
  • Supervision or co-supervision of postgraduate research students
  • Development of new curricula and academic programmes
  • Joint research projects and competitive research funding proposals
  • Academic leadership, mentoring, and international collaboration

Eligibility

Applicants should normally:

  • Hold a PhD in a relevant discipline
  • Hold or have held an academic appointment at a recognised higher education or research institution
  • Demonstrate an established record of research and scholarly publications
  • Have experience in university-level teaching and supervision

  • Potential contribution to the School and relevant Department
  • Interest in curriculum development and/or departmental launch activities
  • Preferred duration and timing of a visiting appointment

Remuneration

Visiting Professor appointments are paid positions. The level of remuneration will be determined at a later stage, in accordance with the relevant institutional policies and available funding, taking into account the duration and scope of duties of the appointment.

This call is exploratory and non-binding and is intended to identify potential academic collaborators. Formal Visiting Professor appointments will be subject to institutional approval procedures.
