The new era is here, so are we in the new era (4.6.2020)

Dear members of the University community,

The final exams of the spring semester of the Cyprus University of Technology is coming to an end this week. During the six months in which the Administration's reflexes were tested in decision-making, the ability to transform theoretical knowledge into new applied methods of Teaching for the instructors, the ability to quickly adapt to new data by management and of course the mental strength of all.

At the top of our priorities, we have been protecting the health of our students and staff from the very beginning. At the same time, we aimed to complete the academic semester in relation to the courses, we did not leave any room for the semester to be lost for our students. Decisively and in a timely manner, we have formulated and implemented a guideline framework for the design of alternative distance learning methods, which included more than 480 undergraduate and postgraduate courses. We have adequately utilized our technological infrastructure, we have strengthened the cooperative spirit of our people, we have shown the maximum will for no one to be left behind.

Our guidance framework included a number of alternative assessment methods that could be used in combination or individually, including methods and tools for long-distance testing. We have also ensured compliance with certain basic principles such as validity, transparency, equality, inclusion, reliability, academic integrity and the protection of personal data.

This effort and its successful outcome was a collective affair. We were thrilled by the seriousness and dedication of our student representatives who responded to the call for participation in the crisis management team we formed. Our optimism has been fueled by the zeal and efficiency shown by the relevant executives who supported all aspects of our actions. It gave us new confidence to learn and the willingness of our academics to put knowledge and experience towards the service of a great and collective goal. Our students made us proud of the courage, perseverance and responsiveness they showed in these unprecedented and demanding conditions.

I extend my heartfelt thanks to all who have contributed to our team success, the executives and heads of our Administrative Services, the Director, the faculty members, the faculty, the Special Scientists, the Heads of Departments, the Deans of our Schools and the Vice-Rectors. Special thanks to those who willingly exceeded the narrow confinements of their duties and rushed to support other students and colleagues.

The last two months or so have not only been stressful. They were also instructive, or at least that's how we should evaluate them. Our unexpected needs pushed us to find and implement new solutions. Our perception of education, research, our daily work at the University, our position in Europe and in the world has expanded, we must not go back, only forward is the direction.

We are very proud of what we have achieved at the Cyprus University of Technology. We proved, first to ourselves, that we can do better and bigger. We all made our university proud together.

The new era is here, so are we in the new era.

Thank you,
