Greek Language Courses at the Cyprus University of Technology Language Centre

Greek Please! Greek for the Public

The Cyprus University of Technology Language Centre offers Greek language courses of all levels to the wider public. The courses follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (A1-C2). The courses are open to non-native speakers who are interested in learning or improving their knowledge of the Greek language. Courses aim at the simultaneous development of all language skills, namely reading, writing, listening, and speaking in authentic situations.

By the end of the course the students are expected to be able to communicate in Greek fluently, as well as communicate in various situation contexts always depending on the level they have attended.

Programmes

A number of various programmes run during the year, including programmes of general interest or specialized programmes, which are adjusted to the particular communicational needs of the students. The particular features of these programmes (duration, level, cost, group or personal learning etc) depend on the students’ particular needs.  For example there are intensive lessons for people who work:

  • at the embassy of a foreign country
  • as medical staff (doctors, nurses etc)
  • in the tourist domain (hotels, restaurants, offices etc)
  • in the legal profession or as secretaries

Level

The programmes are designed according to the criteria set by the CEFR:

  •  Basic Level (A1-A2)
  •  Intermediate Level (B1-B2)
  •  Advanced Level (C1-C2)
  •  B2 for Doctors 

Activities

As part of the Greek language and culture teaching procedure, the students of the Language Centre of CUT are involved in various cultural activities such as:

A. Visiting various places where authentic use of language occurs.
B. Watching Greek films with authentic use of the language.
C. Attending Greek theatrical performances and concerts.


Exam

The exam includes understanding and producing both oral and written speech. Moreover, the exam considers various cultural matters as essentials in order to evaluate the level of attainment, which the students have reached.  

 

CERTIFICATES

Certificate of Greek Language Proficiency. 

  • The students who successfully pass the written and  oral exams receive a certificate of Greek language Proficiency.

Certificate of attendance 

  • Those who regularly attend the lessons receive a course certificate of attendance for any legal use.

 

Registration

Registration: Beginning of new academic year

Academic SemestersFall, spring and summer

Duration of studies: 1 or 2 academic semesters, 13 weeks, two 90-minute sessions per week

Teaching hours: Morning, afternoon, evening

Tuition fees: 350 Euros

  1.   The fees cover the entire period of study and include participation in the May and/or December examinations of the same academic year in order to obtain the Greek Language Knowledge Certificate.
  2. Students fees are paid in advance during the 1st week of lessons.
  3. Student fees will not be returned in case of discontinuation of studies or non-attendance of lessons.

 

Required documents for registration:

  1.  Application Form
  2. Photocopy of passport/ ID card.
  3.  The original bank receipt of payment of tuition fees from a Bank and one photocopy of the receipt
