RESEARCH FELLOW POSITION

(Postdoctoral Researcher)

 

Applications are invited from candidates who possess the necessary qualifications in order to fill one (1) Full-time Research Fellow position (Postdoctoral Researcher) at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering and Informatics in the field of “Quantum Communication Photonics”.

The selected researcher will work within the CYQCI (Cyprus Quantum Communications Infrastructure) project for an initial period of twelve (12) months with the prospect of renewal until the end of the project (31st August 2025). The gross monthly salary for the position will be €2664,00 until the end of 2023, and €2652,46 from January 2024 until the end of the contracted 12-month period (or in case of a renewal until the end of the project). It is noted that there is provision for 13th salary (the cost of the 13th salary has been proportionally incorporated in the monthly remuneration as analyzed above).

 

Main responsibilities and tasks:

  • Development of novel in-fibre quantum communication systems based on point-to-point quantum key distribution.
  • Security analysis simulations of quantum key distribution protocols.
  • Development of methods for the integration of quantum key distribution over conventional communication networks.
  • Data analysis of experimental data for the efficient extraction of secret keys.
  • Software and hardware programming for the coordination of large-scale experiments.
  • Set up of equipment required for the development of the experimental systems.
  • Present at Conferences and other events.
  • Work closely with the rest of the team and demonstrate effective, respectful, and honest communication when collaborating with colleagues.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

 

Applicants should have:

  • A bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. title from a recognized university in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or any other relevant discipline.
  • Experience working with fibre-based or free-space optics.
  • Experience in developing experimental optical setups and implementing test procedures for optical subassemblies including lasers and electro-optics.
  • Experience in scientific programming in Python or C or C++ or similar, including hardware control programming, i.e. via VISA.
  • Experience in writing articles for publication in peer reviewed journals.
  • Organizational skills
  • Experience in the dissemination of research projects.
  • Excellent written and oral scientific communication skills in English.
  • Willingness to travel abroad to participate in training activities and workshops
  • Self-motivation in scientific research.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.

 

The following will be considered as an advantage:

  • Experience in quantum communications (quantum key distribution, entanglement distribution, teleportation, single photon generation and detection) will be considered an advantage.
  • Experience in quantum cryptography protocols and simulations.
  • Experimental experience with quantum optics.
