 RESEARCH FELLOW (POST GRADUATE ASSOCIATE / ASSISTANT RESEARCHER A)

The university: The Cyprus University of Technology, with less than 15 years of operation, managed to secure international recognition and high rankings for its duration. Specifically, at the world university rankings TIMES 2018-2019, the university is ranked 301-350 globally. It is also ranked 214 globally in Computer Science by csrankings.org.

The Social Computing Research Center (SCRC): SCRC (https://www.socialcomputing.eu) brings together researchers specializing in social informatics from various departments of the university combining expertise in the fields of trust-aware design of distributed systems, device-centric authentication, federated identity management, discrimination based on personal data, cybersafety, transactional workload scalability, social aspects of information technology, human-computer interaction, and data mining and analysis.

Also, SCRC has secured a number of new funded research projects. Specifically, in less than four years of its operation, it has secured funding of €2.5 million from the European Union's Horizon 2020 program.

The position: The Cyprus University of Technology accepts applications to fill one (1) Special Scientist position (Post Graduate Associate / Assistant Researcher  A’) at the Social Computing Research Center (SCRC). This vacancy is for the European funded project INCOGNITO in the subject " IdeNtity verifiCatiOn with privacy-preservinG credeNtIals for anonymous access To Online services". The INCOGNITO project is funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 program.

Purpose of the position: The goal of the INCOGNITO researcher's position is to combine state-of-the-art technologies in a platform that will allow users to easily understand what is needed to access online services with respect to their privacy and be able to prove specific attributes of their identity or their whole identity. 

The purpose of the project: The main purpose of INCOGNITO is to a) design and implement an infrastructure that supports Qualified Anonymity (QA) by leveraging state of the art cryptographic credentials schemes as well as Federated Login solutions; b) design and implement an Identity Acquisition and Management platform that will allow the user to quickly and securely acquire identity attributes from Physical ID documents and Online Identities; c) design and implement an advanced UI/UX AI-based assistant that will guide and inform the user about aspects of his identity management as well as possible actions to take; d) evaluate the results of the project through two pilot activities.

Consortium: The INCOGNITO project consortium includes the Cyprus University of Technology and the University of Piraeus, as well as Small and Medium Enterprises from Greece (Fogus Innovations & Services Pc), Spain (LSTECH ESPANA SL), Spain (Telefonica Investigacion Y Desarrollo SA) and Romania (S.C CERTSIGN S.A).

The Cyprus University of Technology participates in the above program with the NetSySci Lab (https://netsysci.cut.ac.cy), under the umbrella of the Social Computing Research Center (https://www.socialcomputing.eu).

Qualifications of a prospective researcher:

  1. Specialized knowledge in the relevant subjects (of Informatics).
  2. Bachelor of Science in a related field of Informatics.
  3. Master of Science in a related field of Informatics will be considered as an additional qualification.
  4. To have programming experience in high-level languages.
  5. To be familiar with machine learning or statistics.
  6. Good knowledge of cyber security, authentication and identification.
  7. Good organizational skills.
  8. To be fluent in both written and spoken English.
  9. Experience in carrying out research related to the subject will be considered as an additional qualification.

Responsibilities of a prospective researcher:

  1. Carry out research and implementation tasks on the relevant subject areas of the project.
  2. Prepare reports with regard to the project work/tasks undertaken.
  3. Completion of a secondment of a total duration of 12 months (interrupted or consecutive) to one or all of the companies belonging to the project consortium abroad (Athens, Thessaloniki or Madrid) - see Salary, below, for compensation.

Salary:

  • The monthly gross salary amounts to €1,496.954. 
  • The 13th salary is incorporated in proportion to the monthly remuneration.
  • During the secondment periods, the candidate will receive substantial compensation additional to the above-mentioned gross wages.
  • The employment will start with a six (6) months contract with the possibility of renewal and an increase to the monthly salary.
  • The employment is expected to begin on March 1st, 2022.  The project ends on December 31st, 2022.
