Οne (1) part-time Research Fellow position (Postdoctoral Researcher) in the field of “Sustainable Port Management and Short Sea Shipping”

Applications are invited from candidates who possess the necessary qualifications in order to fill one (1) part-time Research Fellow position (Postdoctoral Researcher) at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Informatics in the field of “Sustainable Port Management and Short Sea Shipping”, funded under the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation Programme “STEAM: Sea Traffic Management in the Eastern Mediterranean”.

The primary goal of this research programme is to develop the Port of Limassol to become a world-class transshipment and information hub adopting modern digital technologies brought to the maritime sector, as well as a driver for short sea shipping in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the coordination of the programme’s activities with respect to the Limassol Port and in particular the work packages concerning the implementation and evaluation of the Port CDM (Collaborative Decision Making), the Limassol Shore Center and Short Sea Shipping. More specifically, the postdoc is expected to work seamlessly with the other partners participating in the programme towards the preparation of deliverables according to the deadlines as set by the programme and contribute towards the operation and evaluation of the STEAM Platform at the Port of Limassol in close collaboration with the Cyprus Ports Authority and the other private stakeholders at the port. The selected applicant should also be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, as well as excellent knowledge of programming, port management and economics and maritime informatics. Most importantly, the selected applicant is expected to be able to conduct high-caliber research.

Applicants should have:

  • PhD degree in Shipping Economics, Shipping Finance, Shipping Management, Port Economics, Port Management, Maritime Logistics, Transportation Economics, Logistics Engineering, or related fields  
  • Master and Bachelor degrees in Shipping and Finance, Shipping and Trade, International Trade and Transport, Transportation Management, Logistics Management, Port Economics, Port Management, or related fields
  • For candidates with PhD in Shipping or Port related area, Master or Bachelor degrees in Economics or Management will also be considered
  • Very knowledge of English (spoken and written)
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

The following will be considered as an advantage:

  • Prior experience in programming, maritime technologies and informatics, and sea voyage transport
  • Prior research experience or specialization in a related field
  • Prior participation in funded national or European research programs

Τhe appointment will be for a period of twelve (12) months with the prospect of renewal until December 2021 (expected date of appointment 3 June 2019). The monthly gross salary for the position will be € 2000, based on current legislation. It is noted that there is provision for 13th salary (the cost of the 13th salary has been proportionally incorporated in the monthly remuneration as analyzed above).
