Dear members of the University Community,
Following our previous announcements, all Members of our University Community are informed of the following:
The University has set up a web site where all relevant announcements and answers to questions about travel, events, courses and other aspects of the University's operation are posted. Visit the site at https://www.cut.ac.cy/coronavirus_gr/
For the purpose of avoiding confusion, it is necessary to monitor all information sent by the Rector's Office and to follow all instructions.
Last night, with the announcement of the Ministry of Health for a confirmed case of COVID-19 at the Nicosia General Hospital, students that at the hospital for clinical practicum were instructed to stay at home for 14 days for containment. Furthermore, the Ministry of Health's protocol for those likely to be contacted, meant for diagnostic laboratory tests. The measures taken for the students in the clinical area also applied to the students' coordinators (clinical trainers). It was also decided that 4th year nursing students to take precautionary measures and stay at home for a week. It was decided to suspend clinical practice at the Nicosia General Hospital until a more recent announcement by the Ministry of Health and the hospital about its operation and preventive measures. In general, where contact with a suspected case was suspected, confinement at home were implemented in accordance with the instructions of the Ministry of Health.
All members of the University Community are urged to apply the new Ministry of Health guidelines for travelers who have returned from travel to the following destinations in the last 14 days:
Category 1: Compulsory restraint under medical supervision (quarantine) at home if available or at the Ministry of Health (Hubei Province of China, Italy, Iran, Republic of Korea).
Category 2: Compulsory self-confinement at their home or at the Ministry of Health for 14 days under telephone surveillance. Avoid close contact and travel, follow basic hygiene rules, monitoring and reporting of symptoms on hotline 1420 (Other provinces of China - excluding Hubei province, Japan, Hong Kong, Germany, France, Spain, Greece, United Kingdom).
Category 3: Self-monitoring and in case of symptoms contact telecommunication center 1420. Adherence to basic hygiene rules, restriction of travel to the most necessary (Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, Singapore).
Detailed instructions for people in self-confinement or quarantine can be found at: https://www.pio.gov.cy/coronavirus/.
All passengers in categories 1 and 2 will be directed to the airport office, while ports will be limited to their cab.
On the basis of the above, its clear that a compulsory number of staff must not come to work for a certain period of time at the University. Their absence will be recorded as sick leave without medical certificates. For student cases they will not be considered absences.
As the number of compulsory absences also concerns Teachers, some courses will be conducted remotely. Instructions will be sent to Students and Teachers.
Yours sincerely,
Professor Panagiotis Zafiris
Rector of the Cyprus University of Technology
