The Cyprus University of Technology, and more specifically its Energy and Environmental Economics and Policy Research Group, will assess current policies and measures that are in place for the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions in the Republic of Cyprus; and will propose a draft Action Plan with detailed policies and measures to achieve a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in Cyprus, including a specific timetable for implementation of these measures as well as cost-effectiveness calculations. The latter will involve assessing each measure in terms of Euros per tonne of reduction of CO2 equivalent emissions), which will enable choosing the most cost-effective policies.

This project gathered representatives from all EU Member States and other EU countries. It aimed at monitoring energy efficiency trends and measures in Europe, using on two complementary internet databases: ODYSSEE on energy efficiency / CO2 indicators, including detailed data on energy consumption, activities and related CO2-emissions and MURE on energy efficiency policy measures, including their impact. It provided an update of these databases up to the year 2013.

This project, funded by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) of the European Commission as a part of the Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP), aimed at stimulating teaching, research and reflection in the field of European integration studies in the field of energy and environmental policy. In the frame of this project, specialised lectures were given to students about the decision-making process in the European Union and the evolution of the EU’s energy and environmental policy and the challenges ahead. Lectures were accompanied by teaching material that was specifically developed for this project. Moreover, public lectures, workshops and roundtable discussions were organised, aiming at high school students and the broader public.

The biophysics and biochemistry behind the functionality of heme proteins, with the interaction of myoglobin (Mb) and Cytochrome c Oxidase (CcO) with atmospheric gases (COx, NOx) to give insight into their in vivo behavior and possible environmental sensor capabilities. The studies on Photosystem II (PSII) are related to the mechanism of excess energy dissipation (Non Photochemical Quenching or NPQ) and the plant photoprotection process that is highly relevant to a changing climate in terms of the production of tolerant plants, the O2 evolution and CO2 fixation. On the other hand, one can consider Ice Nucleation (IN), New Particle Formation (NPF) and Cloud Condensation Nuclei (CCN) formation in the Atmosphere, viewed from the physical chemistry aspect.
