To provide high caliber academic and professional education and applied research in the area of shipping and maritime studies, creating a continuous impact in the local and international maritime community and offer to its graduates a successful career path in the demanding shipping industry. In particular, the mission focuses on creating added value through actions on the following areas:

 

Education

The Department envisages to become a national, regional and international center of higher education by offering high quality and competitive academic programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in maritime studies which reflect technological, industrial and environmental developments, as well as the needs of the shipping sector. By addressing high-level students, it will offer modern teaching integrated with applied research, aiming to create readily employable and well-equipped with hard and soft skills graduates, catering to the needs of demanding local and global maritime industry.

 

Research and Innovation

The Department aims to become a pioneer in the production of applied research and achieving excellence in the local and global research community. In order to meet the current and continuously emerging challenges of the maritime sector, the Department aims to promote the results of the produced research by transferring the know-how to the society and the shipping industry, to fit into pertinent policies and, ultimately, to create innovative solutions, with significant economic, business and environmental impact.

 

Social contribution

The Department envisages to become a key player in the maritime sector. Through a strong network of collaborating stakeholders and well-established industry players in the local maritime cluster, the Department promotes synergies and constructive social dialogue, through which data-driven, research corroborated and substantiated proposals and policies will provide solutions to important issues which the shipping industry is facing.
