Nicos Synnos is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Fine Arts at the Cyprus University of Technology, and the founder and coordinator of the Lab for Animation Research (LAR). He has been teaching in Cypriot higher education since 2001. He has worked on animation productions for television, cinema, and the web in the USA, the UK, and Cyprus, and his films have been recognised at international film festivals.
He founded the experimental animation studio “toonachunks” in Limassol and is a founding member of Animafest – Views of the World International Animation Festival, ASIFA Cyprus, and the
[...]NeMe Arts Centre. He is also the President of the Limassol Cinema Club.
His research focuses on experimental film, with an emphasis on animation, filmic time and space, and frame‑by‑frame experimental processes for creating moving images in virtual environments and new media. He is an animation director and visual artist whose work explores themes of egocentrism, individualism, and authoritarian human behaviour through experimental spatial and temporal approaches in drawing‑based and experimental animation.
