Description: the doctoral study aims to develop and evaluate plant biostimulant pre-treatment technologies coupled with advanced nanotechnological materials, with the goal to achieve improved growth and production under optimal conditions as well as abiotic stress conditions (such as drought and salinity). Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from an accredited University in Agricultural/Biological Sciences. Fluency in English language is required. Candidates will have to attend interview for the current position.

Description: The research aims to develop and evaluate technologies in intensive agricultural crop growing cystems, customized cultivation practices and nutrient recipes (Taylor-made) with the goal to improve plant production and fresh produce quality but also added value products/ingredients. Required Qualifications: Bachelor and Master of Science degree from an accredited University in Agricultural Sciences or Biology or related disciplines. Applicants should be fluent in English. Description: The research aims to develop and evaluate technologies and natural products with antioxidant, antimicrobial and biocidal activity for postharvest maintenance of fresh produce with emphasis on prolonged storage, quality improvement and food safety. Required Qualifications: Bachelor and Master of Science degree in Agricultural Sciences, Food Science/Technology or Food Chemistry or other relevant degree in the area. Description: The doctoral study aims to evaluate different preharvest treatments (field experiments) in the productivity of small fruits under Cypriot conditions with emphasis on the cultivation of raspberries from different cultivars. Description: Citrus are the most important fruit commodity of Cyprus with a strong export orientation. The doctoral study aims to evaluate different production protocols (field experiments) in the productivity of selected cultivar/rootstock combinations under Cypriot conditions. Interested parties are encouraged to contact the Academic advisor for further information.

Brief description: The research aims at investigating the impacts of climate change on agricultural crops and dependent organisms, with particular emphasis on arthropod pests and their natural enemies. The work involves modelling the impacts of climate change on agricultural systems and the validation of model results through field experiments.

Required Qualifications: Candidates are expected to have a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from an accredited University in Agricultural Sciences or Ecology or related disciplines. Applicants must have an excellent working knowledge of the English language. Previous relevant research experience, especially on modelling, is highly valued. Candidates will have to attend interview for the current position.

  • One (1) position in the topic: “Trunk diseases of tree fruit crops and grapevine - Etiology, epidemiology and management”

Description: The scope of the thesis is to unravel and characterize the composition of the fungal microbiome associated with trunk diseases of tree fruit crops in Cyprus. The candidate will conduct field epidemiology studies on dominant causal agents causing relevant diseases under Cyprus conditions. Research on aspects of disease management will be also performed.

Required Qualifications:  Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree (MSc) from accredited universities in Agricultural Sciences, Microbiology or Biology. The candidates should enjoy performing a combination of applied/field and basic research, whereas experience in molecular and microbiological assays will be considered an asset. Candidates should be fluent in English (writing and oral).

Funding: Funding is possible through sources of the responsible research advisor. In addition, depending on her or his expertise and qualifications the candidate could be funded as a teaching assistant in the laboratory courses of the Department, receive internal scholarships and participate in funded research projects.
