Anastasios Merkouris graduated from the Department of Nursing of the University of Athens (1992) and then acquired a Master’s degree (Msc) from the University of California San of Nursing Francisco (USA) (1995) and a PhD from the University of Athens in Nursing Management (1996).
He has worked for many years as Visiting Professor at the Military School of Nursing Officers, as Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Nursing at Hellenic Mediterranean University and he has a lot of experience in health care professional training (manager of educational departments, special national evaluator, teaching etc.). He also has served in many special positions at the Cyprus University of Technology, as Chair and Vice Chair of the Department of Nursing, Dean of the school of Health Sciences, Member of the University Board, President of the Academic Union, Member of various Senate committees, Electoral boards etc.
He has more than 130 publications in scientific journals, a Scopus h index of 26 and over 1700 citations.
He is teaching Leadership and Management of Health Services, Methodology of Research for Health Sciences, and Principles of Teaching and Learning in Nursing at undergraduate and graduate level.
His research interests include: Organization of nursing care, Organizational culture, Nursing Leadership, Quality Management of Health Care Organizations, Patient satisfaction, Health related quality of life, Patients’ rights and Evaluation of the educational services.
