Education: Mrs Maria Prodromou is currently a PhD candidate in exploitation of remote sensing techniques in wildfires at the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT). She received her BSc in Surveying Engineering and Geomatics and she continued her studies in the field of “Geoinformatics and Geospatial Technologies” both from the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics, from the CUT. During her BSc, she studied the detection of underground structures using field spectroscopy for defence and security. During her MSc her dissertation was based on Characterize aerosol optical properties observed over Limassol, Cyprus using LiDAR system.

Professional background: In the summer [...]of 2016 she took a practical training session at Marathon Data Systems in Athens where she attended a series of seminars for ArcGIS software. She also worked in the Department of Lands and Survey at Larnaca, Cyprus as a land surveyor for 8 months. Furthermore, she has participated in SEO-DWARF project (Semantic EO Data Web Alert and Retrieval Framework-H2020-MSCA-RISE). Within the framework of the SEO-DWARF project, she works in calibration and validation of the remote sensing algorithms. Also, she has participated in various activities such as giving presentations in Primary and High Schools in order to promote space technology including the Copernicus Space program and Sentinel Mission. Currently, she participates in THAL-CHOR 2 (Cross border Cooperation for Implementation of Marine Spatial Planning) and SOFIA (Schools encouragement in educatiOn and outreach of Earth surveIllance And remote sensing) research programs. Her research focuses on: Satellite Remote Sensing, Spectroradiometers, GIS, Geoinformatics for environmental applications, forest fires, marine applications.
