Dr. Marios Tzouvaras received his MEng (5-year Diploma) on Rural and Surveying Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens in 2005. He continued his studies at the Imperial College London and University College London where he obtained his MSc Degree in Transport with Distinction in 2006. In 2020, he obtained his PhD degree from the Cyprus University of Technology on the exploitation of Earth Observation techniques for the monitoring and assessment of the impact of natural hazards on infrastructure resilience. Since 2012, Marios is a Research Associate at the Remote Sensing and Geo-environment Lab (ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence)
[...] of the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics of CUT and has worked in numerous EU funded research projects such as CopHub.AC – Copernicus Academy Hub for Knowledge, Innovation and Outreach; EXCELSIOR – ERATOSTHENES: Excellence Research Centre for Earth Surveillance and Space-Based Monitoring of the Environment; CyCLOPS – Cyprus Continuously Operating Natural Hazards Monitoring & Prevention System; ARINFUSE - Infusing skills & Exploiting the potential of the Augmented Reality technologies within the utility network sector; CLIMA – Cultural Landscape risk Identification, Management and Assessment; INTRAPRISE – Infusing entrepreneurial skills in the corporate ICT environment; ATHENA – Remote Sensing Science Center for Cultural Heritage; THAL-CHOR and THAL-CHOR 2 – Cross-Border Cooperation for the development of Marine Spatial Planning; MEDNET – Mediterranean Network for Custom Procedures and Simplification of Clearance in Ports. Marios has also participated in the writing and submission of numerous research project proposals in various calls, such as Horizon 2020, JPI, Erasmus+, ESA-PECS, Research Promotion Foundation, etc. He also has extensive consulting and construction experience as he worked for over 6 years in the industry, developing transport models, transport assessment reports and risk assessment reports in the United Kingdom and abroad; and supervising the construction of critical infrastructure, such as the Queen Alia International airport in Amman, Jordan. He is a member of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK) and the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE).
