Research Interests

Professor Stelios A. Choulis was the photovoltaic device research and development (R&D) group leader of Konarka Technologies (Germany, 2006-2008) and R&D Device Engineer of the Osram Opto-Semiconductors Inc, Organic Light Emitting Diode team at Silicon Valley (USA, 2004-2006). During his first PhD and first Postdoctoral Research Associate position at Advanced Technology Institute (1999-2002, University of Surrey, UK) funded both by the British Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC) he investigated the optical properties of quantum electronic materials and optoelectronic devices. In 2002 he joined the center of electronic materials and devices (Imperial College London, UK) as Postdoctoral Research Associate funded by British Petrol (BP), and work on the opto-electronic properties of molecular semiconductor materials and devices (2002-2004). He has broad experience and expertise in academic and industrial research of electronic materials and devices, including: material design, characterization, device physics/processing and demonstrated working knowledge from investigating fundamental scientific problems to the development of prototypes (OPVs) and qualified products (OLEDs). He has lead and participate in several funded (EU, National and USA) researhc programs, At his current job at Cyprus University of Technology (CUT-2008-Present, Professor), he lead a successful 2 M Euros 4-years bid for the creation of the Molecular Electronics and Photonics Research Group at CUT (2010-2015) and ensure his group sustainability through his team participation in a large FP7-NMP-2013-SME based project on OLED displays (2013-2017). He further received a prestigious 2014-ERC consolidator grant (1.85M Euros) from the European Research Council (ERC) under the EU Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme for developing together with his team the next generation of advanced opto-electronic devices.
