CV

Dr. Nicos C. Angastiniotis is a Faculty member of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering of Cyprus University of Technology. He holds a B.S in Mechanical Engineering, an M.S. in Mechanics and Materials Science and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, USA. His doctoral dissertation on nanostructurization and amorphization of metal ceramic composite materials (cermets) resulted in the co-development of a patent of invention award (5 family members: US, EP, JP, CA, ZA) in co-ownership with the Secretary of the United States Navy, Rutgers University [...]and N.V. Union Miniere S.A. The research work of Dr. Angastiniotis is internationally acknowledged and cited in the INPADOC and USPTO databases by patents assigned to companies such as Honda Motor Co. (Japan), Honda R & D (USA), the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry (Japan), the China Petroleum Corporation (Beijing), and Osram Sylvania (USA). He has been recognized for Research Excellence by the Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF) and the American Powder Metallurgy Institute (APMI). The research activities of Dr. Angastiniotis include: nanoparticle metastable treatment; tailoring of nanoparticle physicochemical characteristics; thermochemical nanosynthetic growth and process characterization; thermokinetics of spontaneous phase transformations; metastabilization. Furthermore, through the use of his own patented process he has the unique capability to convert inhomogeneous nanoparticles with limited stability and uncontrolled crystallinity into amorphous or uniform nanocrystalline building blocks with predefined grain size, structure, and tailor-made stoichiometric or non-stoichiometric composition thereby controlling the material properties.
