New RECLAIM Research Project to Advance the Future of Data Management


A new research project, RECLAIM (Retrieval and Compression-aware Data Layer for Advanced Information Management), has officially commenced at the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT). The project aims to develop new approaches for managing and accessing the rapidly growing volumes of data that underpin modern digital systems.

Starting on 1 September 2026 and running for 24 months, RECLAIM is funded by the Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) under the Excellence Hubs Programme, through proposal EXCELLENCE/0925/0331.

As organizations increasingly rely on large, complex datasets, there is a growing need for data management technologies that can store and retrieve information more efficiently while reducing computational and energy requirements. Modern systems increasingly use advanced data compression and artificial intelligence techniques to address these challenges. However, these approaches also create new difficulties in quickly locating and accessing information.

The RECLAIM project will address these challenges by exploring a new generation of intelligent data access and indexing methods. The research will investigate how information can be retrieved more efficiently from compressed data and from data environments supported by machine learning and predictive models. By developing new theoretical foundations and innovative algorithms, the project seeks to contribute to more efficient, intelligent, and sustainable data-intensive systems.

RECLAIM brings together a strong partnership between the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) and Rinnoco Ltd, combining academic excellence with industrial expertise. The collaboration will support the development and validation of innovative research ideas while creating a foundation for future technological applications.

The project is expected to strengthen Cyprus's position in advanced data management research, promote open science, and create new opportunities for future innovation in data-intensive technologies.
