by Professor Nico Carpentier on:

Communicating antagonistic nationalism: The memorialization of the Cyprus Problem

Abstract:
The lecture uses the Iconoclastic Controversies research project to reflect about
the importance of a theoretical framework for communication studies analyses,
in combination with discussion related to the application of qualitative textual analysis
methods for research on memorials. Finally, the research project also allows introducing
arts-based research methods, to support the communication and production
of academic knowledge.

Bio:
Nico Carpentier is Extraordinary Professor at Charles University (Prague, Czech Republic)
and President of the International Association for Media and Communication Research
(2020-2023). Moreover, he is a Research Fellow at Loughborough University.
His latest monographs are The Discursive-Material Knot: Cyprus in Conflict
and Community Media Participation (2017, Peter Lang, New York) and Iconoclastic
Controversies: A Photographic Inquiry into Antagonistic Nationalism (2021, Intellect, Bristol).
