The MSc Shipping and Business program aims to develop students' ability to analyze, understand and evaluate advanced issues related to the functioning of shipping markets at managerial level, such as the creation of the necessary action plans a shipping company will pursue to achieve its goals, and the strategic planning that will lead to its transformation from its present situation to the one it wishes to be found in the near or distant future.
The program provides students with advanced knowledge and quantitative tools used in modern maritime practice so as to utilize analytical problem-solving skills to meet current and future industry challenges. It also aims to develop data assessment and decision-making skills of financial, administrative and operational nature.
MSc Shipping and Business students will have the opportunity to encounter modules that equip them with all solid bases for future careers as leaders in either the private or public sector, or as self-employed entrepreneurs (for direct employment in areas of management, economics, shipping and transport).
Alongside, through the high-quality research offered by the Department, as well as through the channels of international dialogue between academia, industry, decision makers and government which are in place, the pursuit of doctoral studies is facilitated and encouraged. Moreover, apart from the open access to doctoral programs of prestigious universities all around the world, the MSc Shipping and Business “grease the wheels” towards the acquisition of professional qualifications. Among others, the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) provides the following 3 exemptions from its own modules to graduates of the Program:
- Introduction to Shipping' module,
- 'Economics of Sea Transport and International Trade' module, and
- ‘Shipping Finance’ module.
Last but not least, the Practical Training offers the suitable opportunity for the students who opt for, to understand the problems and trends governing businesses, in the fields of shipping and management, by integrating them in an environment of real working conditions.
