Pancyprian Photography Competition: The Impact of the Environment on Public Health

Scientific evidence demonstrates the direct relationship between human health (good physical and mental state) and the environment, including lifestyle and individual behaviors. Human health is significantly affected by climate change, environmental degradation and pollution, which increases the risk of developing chronic diseases, such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. On the other hand, healthy environments (e.g. clean air, clean water and green cities) could promote a healthier lifestyle and prevent/reduce disease, overall. Healthy and sustainable lifestyles and choices should be considered a priority for the health of the planet and that of future generations.

Accordingly, Cyprus International Institute for Environmental and Public Health (CII) at CUT  in cooperation with the Cyprus Photographic Society, Limassol Branch, organize a Pancyprian Photography Competition on « The Impact of the Environment on Public Health ».

The purpose of the contest is to raise awareness amongst the Cypriot citizens and stimulate their interest in understanding the connection between the environment and human health. It will encourage them to adopt healthier lifestyles and thus, reduce the risk and/or prevent the development of chronic diseases.

The competition is open to all photographers. There will be give given three (3) monetary awards for to the best sets of photographs, as well as, three (3) partial scholarships (based on academic merit) to attend the new Master’s programme in Public Health (MPH) at CII - CUT.

The competition is proudly sponsored by The Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus and Medochemie Ltd., and its supported by the Pancyprian Cancer Patients and Friends Association (PASYKAF), the Cyprus Anti-Cancer Society  and  Europa Donna Cyprus. Communication sponsor is the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).
