Dr. Thalis Zis is Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce, Finance, and Shipping in the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT). Previous to this appointment he was Senior Researcher at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) where he had been working since June 2015. He holds a Diploma (5 year programme) in Mechanical Engineering from NTUA, and an MSc in Transport (2010) and a PhD in Port Operations (2015) both from Imperial College London. He has worked as an external expert for the European Commission as an evaluator of research proposals submitted in the Horizon 2020 EU Framework Programme
[...]for Research and Innovation, and as an interim evaluator of ongoing H2020 projects. His research and teaching interests are catholic, spanning port operations and maritime logistics, traffic engineering, transport networks, and sustainable logistics. His award winning research is based on an interdisciplinary mixture of methodologies in the areas of Operations Research, Transportation Engineering, Game Theory, and Energy modelling. Dr. Zis has been the recipient of academic excellence awards and competitive scholarships at all levels of education and academic career. He has a keen interest in identifying solutions that can transform the maritime transportation sector and minimize its environmental impact without experiencing negative economic impacts.
