Research Topic Title:

"Public Health" and/or "Health Psychology" on the subject of "Psychological aspects in cancer from prevention to palliative care"

Description:

Interested applicants are called to submit their proposal on one of the following topics (a) prevention of cancer with an emphasis on targeting health behaviours such as smoking and physical exercise using digital health tools or (b) psycho-oncology care. Applicants who select the second, will have the option to participate during their first two years of the PhD research within the framework of a funded project will be paid. The PhD candidate will have the opportunity to work in a European research project and collaborate with a group of researchers and academics of European prestige.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must hold a recognized University Degree in Health Sciences (Medicine, Nursing, Psychology, Biomedicine, Public Health, Research Methods in Health etc.) or another subject relevant to the position. Master's degree in fields related to the position will be considered as an additional qualification. Previous research experience will also be considered as an added advantage. A good knowledge of the English language, knowledge of using a PC, and an understanding of principles and concepts of Research Methodology are required. Candidates who do not hold a master’s degree will have to complete additional ECTS credits based on CUT regulations.

Research Topic Title:

“Prevention of chronic diseases” in the topic of «Longitudinal study of assessing lifestyle factors in women of childbearing age and their effect on fertility and the development of chronic diseases »

Description:

Chronic diseases are leading causes of death and ill-health. There is current evidence that chronic disease development starts early in life through lifestyle exposures such diet, sleep, physical activity can affect from as early as conception, pregnancy and infancy.  However, there is limited evidence on how the health of women and men in the years before conception (pre-conception period) can affect their fertility and successful pregnancy outcomes and the long-term health outcomes for them and their children. Considering the gaps in the literature on pre-conception exposures, we aim to develop a study, the PrePARE for LIFE study, that will assess health exposures and outcomes in a population of individuals of reproductive age.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates should hold an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences (Medicine, Nursing, Midwifery, Nutrition and Dietetics,Physiotherapy) or other related field. Very good command of the English language, good computer skills and familiarity with the concepts and principles in Health Research Methodology and health prevention and promotion are required. Prior experience in research and/or relevant clinical experience will be considered an advantage. Candidates who are not holders of a Master in Science degree will be required to complete additional ECTS credits as per the Cyprus University of Technology regulations
