External transfers - Second degree

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

The candidate for transfer and / or second degree must come from an institution of higher and tertiary education officially recognized in the country in which it operates and / or from a field of specialization which has undergone evaluation/ certification in the country in which it operates.

The candidate for transfer has the right to apply after the first semester completion and until the end of the eighth semester of studies at the educational institution of origin.  

Students who have been awarded a mark equal to or higher than the last candidate admitted on the 1st Distribution (following Entrance Pancyprian and Panhellenic Examinations) at the Department they wishing to enrol, have the right to apply before the end of the first semester of their studies .

For a transfer and second degree application, an average mark of at least "6,5/10" should be obtained at the educational institution of origin or equivalent to that at the discretion of the Department. It is understood that the candidate for transfer should have been awarded at least 30 credit units ( ECTS ) or equivalent units required to complete a semester at the University of origin, according to the course structure and provided that he / she submits the application within the specified deadline defined above.

Applications are evaluated by each Department and the following criteria are taken into consideration:

  • Average mark obtained in the institution of origin
  • Marks obtained in various modules
  • Number and content of modules in which the candidate failed
  • Degree of relevance of the course and modules of the Department of origin with the one of the Department of Preference.
  • Method of admission to the institution of origin (e.g. general access to Pancyprian or other relevant exams)

During examination of the application of transfer or second degree, the relevant Department may take into consideration medical / economic / social factors, provided that the candidates meet all the academic criteria.

The candidate for transfer must be a holder of a Senior High School Leaving Certificate.

REQUIRED SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS  

Candidates for transfer and second degree must submit a transcript showing the credits units (ECTS ) awarded to the candidate, the mark (numerically) obtained in each module, and the average mark for all modules. Otherwise, the candidate must submit, apart from the transcript, a certificate from the institution of origin stating the above information.  

Candidates for transfer must provide the entrance examinations marks (Pancyprian or Panhellenic Examinations). If the candidate has not got through these exams, then he / she must provide the entrance examination marks through which he/she got admitted to the educational institution of origin and a written certificate proving that he / she has not got through the Pancyprian or Panhellenic Examinations.

Candidates for transfer and second degree must provide a certificate by KY.S.A.T.S (the Cyprus Council of Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications) stating that their field of specialization is recognized, if the institution of origin is not a State institution.

Candidates for second degree must provide a copy of the degree or a certificate of expected graduation.

Upon announcement of the positions, the Departments may request additional supporting documents that meet specific requirements.

PROCEDURE AND TIMETABLE FOR APPLICATIONS

Applications for transfer and / or a second degree are submitted in mid-March and mid-October of each year for admissions in the next academic semester.

The candidate's application together with all the requested supporting documents are submitted electronically via the University Portal to the Academic Affairs and Student Welfare Service, which examines and forwards them to the relevant Department, suggesting as to whether the candidate has the minimum qualifications for transfer, as specified by the University.

The Council of the Department appoints a three-member Transfer Committee, composed of members of the academic staff examining the applications for transfer and second degree and making recommendations on accepting them or not. It is understood that the Council of the Department may appoint the Committee of Undergraduate Studies of the Department to be the Transfer Committee. The decision to offer a position or not to the candidate is taken by the Council of the Department.

In case the Council of the relevant Department considers that a candidate has the required qualifications, despite the contrary suggestion of the Academic Affairs and Student Welfare Service, then the Department shall refer the issue to the Council of the School to which the Department belongs. The Council of the School takes a final decision which is communicated to the Academic Affairs and Student Welfare Service.

The Departments take their final decisions which are sent justified, either positive or negative, to the Academic Affairs and Student Welfare Service, which in its turn notifies the candidates in writing. In cases of unjustified answers, the Academic Affairs and Student Welfare Service addresses the Department, asking for more clarifications.  

Where the Transfer Committee of the Department deems necessary, the candidate may undergo special entrance examinations and / or personal interview before the decision for  transfer is taken.

RECOGNITION OF MODULES AND CALCULATION OF MARKS

A student who is transferred to an undergraduate course or second degree can be credited with up to 120 credit units. , plus the classes required to learn a foreign language. It is understood that the maximum total time period of study of transferred students to all university institutes of attendance, is twelve semesters, of which at least four semesters are attended at the University. For calculation purposes of the maximum permissible time of studies completion for each student who makes an external transfer to the University, half of his / her attendance time at the University of origin will be credited.

If some of the course modules to be recognized in the reception Department are taught by another Department, then the reception Department should consult the Department teaching them, which has the sole responsibility for recognizing these courses. The reception Department defines the number of modules to be credited. Recognition of units can be obtained by students coming from a transfer, a second degree and entrance examinations. The Language Centre has the exclusive jurisdiction for exemptions and credits in language modules

The transcript of transfer students in an undergraduate course or a second degree shows the corresponding modules of the University having been recognized as well as the corresponding credit units of each module. In order to identify the elective modules, which are not offered at the University, the "Elective Modules" description and the credit units to be credited will be listed. The total number of credit units recognized to the student must not exceed the 120 credit units.

External transfers - Second degree
