IAESTE

Founded in 1948, IAESTE is an independent non-governmental organization (NGO) with 87 Member Countries and Co-operating Institutions in operational relations with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and maintains consultative relationships with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the International Labour Office (ILO).  The mission of IAESTE is to operate a high quality practical training exchange program between the member countries in order to enhance technical and professional development and to promote international understanding and goodwill amongst students, academic institutions, employers and the wider community.  Over the past 70 years, over 1000 universities from over 85 difference countries participated.

As IAESTE is a reciprocal exchange program, for each placement an organization offers, a Cypriot student from one of the eight participating universities is given the opportunity to embark on a paid internship abroad.  For many students, an IAESTE traineeship is a life changing experience which allows them to gain practical experience in their field of study, while also experiencing a different culture and way of life, and broadens their horizons.

An international exchange is an enriching experience on many levels. It affects both personal and professional development, stimulates creative ideas, enhances relationships, and strengthens multicultural understanding. IAESTE students serve as an ambassador for their country, laying important foundations for future exchanges and collaborations. They share in the benefit of the exchange as they integrate new views, practice cross-cultural sensitivity in their daily interactions and lead the way in appreciating the diversity of people and cultures in their communities.
