Women in Science Dr. Maria Kramvia-Kapardis


On the occasion of the World Day for Women in Science, the Cyprus University of Technology, with a view to encouraging women and girls towards engaging in science, presents women scientists being employed at the University and devoted to their research activities.

"Important and ever-increasing is the presence and contribution of women in the scientific research at universities and other research centers, because gender equality raises indeed the level of science".

Dr. Maria Kramvia-Kapardis is an Associate Professor of Accounting with specialization in Forensic Accounting at the Cyprus University of Technology. She has served as President of the Department of Hotel and Tourism Management, as well as Deputy Dean of the School of Administration and Economics of the same university. Prior to her repatriation, she held an academic position at the University of Melbourne in Australia. Dr. Kramvia-Kapardis was a founding member and first President of the Committee on 'International Transparency of Cyprus' ( 2010-2017) as well as founder and first President of the Committee on Financial Crimes and Forensic Accounting of the Association of Certified Accountants of Cyprus (2010-2014). Dr. Kramvia - Kapardis is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia and a Certified Fraud Examiner ( USA ). She has also served as a visiting scholar at the Uuniversities of Cambridge(UK), Girona (Spain) and Victoria University (Melbourne, Australia). In 2017 the Gold Business Magazine named her as one of the 100 most powerful and influential women in Cyprus.

Dr. Kramvia-Kapardis has published several books, articles in scientific magazines, chapters in books, in the following cognitive subjects: financial crime, corruption, corporate social responsibility, corporate governance, gender issues in business, and business ethics. Dr. Kramvia-Kapardis is a member of the publishing committee of various scientific journals internationally. She has also served as external examiner of doctoral thesis in universities abroad, she is the author of reports on the establishment of the Independent Authority Against Corruption (2017), following recommendation of the Minister of Justice and Public Order, as also for the publication of Public Financial Accounts (2010) following recommendation of the Association of Certified Accountants of Cyprus . Finally, Dr. Kramvia-Kapardis has conducted numbers of studies being funded by European research programmes.

 

One of the scientific fields dealt by Dr. Kramvia-Kapardis is the one of prevention and suppression of financial crime and corruption. In these disciplines, she has published books, articles in scientific journals, chapters in books which have been published in Canada, England, Greece and France. She has also presented her projects at international conferences. Her most recent book was published in 2016 by the international publishing house Palgrave Macmillan and is entitled: Corporate Fraud and Corruption : A Holistic Approach to Preventing Financial Crises. In 2015 she has been honored with two awards for her articles on corruption. In recognition of her scientific standing internationally, she is a national expert of the European Commission for corruption issues and also a committee member to evaluate the accession countries on corruption issues. Finally, following invitation of the European Court of Auditors, she has offered her expertise on addressing economic crime at European level.
