The user tends to be informed by many websites, blogs, portals, databases, etc. Because of the plethora of informaiton available in the Web, it is very difficult for the user to locate all the new updates that occur daily in the sources he is interested in. Through the RSS technology the user gets the capability to get immediate and automatic notification for any new information. RSS is a piece of code written in XML and it was created for content exchange. It allows the user to receive new notifications in his pc without having to visit the sources every time.
The user needs to install a program for reading RSS news in order to get access in an RSS service. These programs are available through the services of some web portals such as My Yahoo!, My Netscape, Bloglines, Google Reader or they are available for free in the internet. Examples of such programs are FeedReader or FeedExplorer (for Windows), NewsFire or NewsReader (for Mac), etc. Additionally, the latest versions of Web browsers such as Firefox

*Note: This procedure is valid only in the case that you do not have the latest version of a web browser. If you do have a new version of a browsethen you simply have select the RSS icon
This is a service that operates as a notification or reminder to the user regarding any new content in the subject areas he is interested in for example. Every time a new registration is made in the relevant sources, the user is being infomred through email.
Available notification services The CUT Library has collected some RSS feeds of publishers and the databases where the Library haas subscriptions. The users have the capability to be informed about new papers, publications, etc. in the subject areas of their interest.
EBSCOhost
After the user has created a personal account in the database, he can use the EBSCOhost Search Alerts & Journal Alerts available through the RSS Feed: ProQuest

RefWorks also has the RefAware service which provides the researchers direct access to new publications in the subject areas of their interest. For more information please visit the website: ScienceDirect
Registration to the personalised services of the database provides the ability to create rss alerts for new content regarding saved searches, new registrations referencing a specidic subject, new volumes of specific journals, and new references in selected papers.Additionally, the database provides the capabiity to notify the user through the rss service.More information about the rss and alert services can be found in the user guide of ScienceDirect.
Scopus
When the user creats a personal account in the database, he has the capability to activate the rss and alerts services
