How can I become a member of the Library?
I do not belong to the community of the Cyprus University of Technology. Can I still use the Library? The library is open to the public during the opening hours. Users will have to give their details to the Circulation Office in order to be given access to the Library services. For repeated use of the Library services you will have to be a member of the Library.
You can search for the book in the electronic catalogue of the Library, or contact the Circulation Office for help. The Library enriches its collection of electronic sources all the time and provides the users with access to a big number of electronic books. You can search and read electronic books through the Alphabetic Catalogue of E-Books.
How can I search for an article?/How can I locate an electronic journal? When you search for a particular article from a journal, first you have to check whether the CUT library has access to the specific title, through the Electronic Sources and Search Tools which contains:
throught 360 Search, the Library provides a mechanism for concurrent search in different sources, which produces a coherent list of results. It gives access to the full text of the articles as long as these belong to journals where the library has a membership.
Serials Solutions E-Journal Portal displays all the available electonic journals of the library alphabetically (it does not include the printed journals). In addition, it provides the capability to perform serach by subject.
The Library provides access to about 75 databases increasing the access capabilities to informational material. You can use LinkSource to connect to the full text of an article in the cases when only the bibliographic reference and the abstract of the article are available, as long as the library has a subscription in the journal. If the Library does not provide electronic access to a journal or article, you can search the WebOPAC in order to locate it and use it in a printed form within the Library grounds. The Library also provides the capability to obtain any article that is available at another library, through the Interlibrary Loan service.
How can I create bibliography? RefWorks - an online research management, writing and collaboration tool - is designed to help researchers easily gather, manage, store and share all types of information, as well as generate citations and bibliographies.
How can I locate bibliographic references?
Who has borrowing rights at the Library? The Library is open to the public but only registered members of the Library can borrow books. You can borrow books and audiovisual material (CD-Rom, DVD, audio tapes, videotapes). informational material such as dictionaries or encyclopaedias cannot be borrowed, as well as journals, newspapers, rare books, use of which is only allowed within the Library. The renewal of a book is allowed only when the book hasn not been requested by another member. The renewal can take place at the Library by presenting the book you wish to renw together with your Library card, or electronically through the WebOPAC. Yoyu can also renew a book by calling the Central Library at 25002518 or the Health Sciences Library at 22001803. The same procedures apply for the renewal of audiovisual material. You cannot renew a book or audiovisual material if this item has already been requested by another member. For more information you can read the Search Guide. In order to reserve material that is already borrowed by another member, you can visit the Library presenting your Library card to the Circulation Desk or visit the website of the Library and select the command "Request" in the Web OPAC. When the book you reserved is returned to the Library, you will be notified by telephone or email in order to come along to the Library and pick it up. If you don't show up in 3 working days from the notification date then your reservation is cancelled. You cannot reserve material that belongs to the Short Loan Collection. For more information you can read the Search Guide. How can I logon to my account? In order to logon to your account you have to select the Web OPAC from the Library website. The Web OPAC gives you the capability to watch and administer electronically your personal account and have daily access to personal information regarding borrowed material, circulation history, reservations, etc. Through your personal account you can also administer and save your List. For more information please see the Search Guide. What happens if I delay to return a book? If a member fails to return the material on time, then a fine is imposed based on the collection of the materia:l
What is the Interlibrary Loan service? The Interlibrary Loan Service is the service which locates and supplies the Library users with material that the Library itself does not include in its collections. This material is being located in other Libraries' collections. The CUT Library developed the service aiming to provide a bigger number of information sources to the users in order to cover their educational or research needs. All the members of the Library can use the Interlibrary Loan service. How can i borrow material from another Library? If you have checked the ELectronic sources and the Electronic Catalogue of the Library ad you haven't managed to find the material you need, you can request the material through the Interlibrary Loan Service. You simply have to complete the Interlibrary Loan Form and send it to the Library. If the material is located then the Library will inform you about the cost of the service and if you wish to proceed with receiving it.
