ERASMUS Programme- Student Mobility 2007-2013
What is ERASMUS:
Erasmus is the EU's education and training programme that enables students to study and work abroad each year. It also supports co-operation between higher education institutions across Europe. Erasmus gives also the opportunity to academics and business staff to teach abroad and be trained. By the end of 2008, two million European students have experienced what it means to do an ERASMUS term in one of more than 3100 higher education institutions in 31 participating countries. These include all the EU member states as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Turkey.
Do I have the right to participate?
Yes, of course. However, you must:
- Be a student at the Cyprus University of Technology
- Be a citizen of one of the participating countries or be recognised as having an official status of refugee or stateless person or permanent resident according to national legislation.
- Have completed the first year of studies and have passed ¾ of courses taken
How do I participate in ERASMUS?
A student must:
- Get in touch with the Coordinator of the Department for more information
- Fill the Statement of Interest
The selection of Erasmus students will be taken based on the following criteria:
- Academic Achievements
- Knowledge of foreign language
- Special Interests(Opportunity to attend courses not offered at the CUT)
How long is the period of ERASMUS?
A student can study for 3-12 months
Will I get recognition for the study period abroad?
Yes, the period abroad will be part of the student’s curriculum of studies. The sending and receiving institutions will sign with the student prior to departure a Learning/Training Agreement setting out the details of the planned activities abroad, including the credits to be achieved. The student will receive full academic recognition from the home university for satisfactorily completed activities during the Erasmus mobility period, in accordance with the Learning/Training Agreement.
Do I get funding for participating in Erasmus?
Yes, if a student has been selected by the university he/she will be awarded a grant that contributes to the cost of living abroad and traveling
Do I have to pay for tuition fees at the university abroad?
No, a student does not have to pay fees at the host university for tuition, registration, examinations, access to laboratory and library facilities during Erasmus studies. A small fee may be payable for insurance.

Can I get language courses at the Cyprus University of Technology?
Yes, a student can take language courses at the Cyprus University of Technology before departure or at the host university before the beginning of the study period. The ERASMUS programme promotes the learning of other European languages. Therefore, ERASMUS students can benefit from ERASMUS Intensive Language Courses (EILCs) in less widely used and taught languages in the host country. Students with special needs such as disabled ones may get extra funds to cover additional expenses related to their stay abroad.
